Hooray! I’m finally back here after six months. I’ve thought about not being here, not writing my Substack, a lot over the past two seasons. After such a good start last year, and with such a lovely set of workshops in January and February, I wanted to build on it but it’s been impossible.
I’ve been focused on caring for family full time and it’s been a tough, challenging but ultimately rewarding six months. This continues but I am hoping that now I can commit to this again. Having quiet moments and time to think during the last six months has been beneficial in lots of ways.
If you are already a subscriber or have been to my workshops you may know that I completed a certificate in Therapeutic and Reflective Writing from the Professional Writing Academy. This was something I had been meaning to do after running writing groups and workshops, mentoring people through writing projects and taking people walking over the last 10 years, since completing my MFA in creative writing and PGCLTHE at Kingston University in 2013.
I’ve certainly found those therapeutic and reflective writing skills especially useful this year! I’ve been ‘walking the walk’ with it, as I’ve had my head down much of the time, wading through complex legal processes, bureaucracy, and constant battles to get appointments, care and communication for people I’ve been supporting at home.
My purely creative work has been on the back burner, along with my workshops, which I have missed so much! I had such plans for this year, but I’ve had to let those go and trust there will be another time (there will). I have definitely learned a lot more experientially about the power of setting intentions, writing a journal, a daily mindfulness and reflective practice, and that old chestnut, self care!
In lots of ways this year has been wonderful – I’ve had a chance to catch up with dear old friends, have a much-needed holiday to Spain, spend precious time with family, watch great films, see great art and even go dancing and let my hair down once or twice!
So, I’m back from outer space – you may notice that this is now a Substack called Setting Sundays. It feels right. Yesterday, we had a solar eclipse and a new moon in Libra, and this feels exactly the perfect time to set a new intention and it is this.
I will post some inspiration for writing and creativity every Sunday, and invite you to set your intention for the next week, whatever that is. As we move on there will be Zoom workshops on Sunday evenings – one-ish hour every week, to round it up, get creative and set our intentions for the new week!

Love the new name. Setting Sundays evokes peace and solace. I hope the rest of 2023 will go well for you, Lucy. Your presence here on Substack has been missed!
